Craniofacial Scanning Protocol

This protocol is to ensure that an accurate 3-D model can be created. Review the following information before proceeding with the scanning process. If you have never worked with ProtoMED before or if you have any questions please contact a ProtoMED representative at 303-466-5610 prior to scanning the patient.

PRE-SCAN PROCEDURE

  • Remove any jewelry that is in the scan area.
  • Stabilize the patient with sponges, tape and any other accessories that will not cause injury to the patient or affect the quality of the CT Scan.
  • Note: It is extremely important that the patient does not move or swallow during the scanning process.
  • Position the patient so that he/she lay supine.

*Maximize the mAs without overheating the tube.

  • Inform the patient that they should not move or swallow until the scan is complete.
  • Inform the patient when the actual scanning process starts.
  • Use the Standard Algorithm.
  • Gantry Tilt must be set to 0.
  • Use an appropriate FOV so the image fills the entire screen but be sure that the desired anatomy is visible.
  • Label the CD or disk with scanner type, date of scan, patient name/number, physician name, facility name, CT technologist name, and CT technologist telephone number.
  • Send the data to ProtoMED.
