Orthopaedic Scanning Protocol
This protocol is to ensure that an accurate 3-D model can be created and used to design a patient specific implant. Review the following information before proceeding with the scanning process. If you have never worked with ProtoMED before, or if you have any questions, please contact a ProtoMED representative at 303-466-5610 prior to scanning the patient.

SCANNING PROCEDURE
- Remove any jewelry that is in the scan area.
- Inform the patient when the actual scanning process starts and that they not move until advised the scan is complete.
- Take a scout view and locate the first slice position.
- Use the Detail Algorithm.
- Gantry Tilt must be set to 0.
- Use an appropriate FOV so the image fills the entire screen, making sure that the desired anatomy is visible.
- Start the scan one slice above the ilium and be sure to scan one slice below the pubis.
- Label the tape or disk with patient name, doctor name, scanner type, date of scan, facility name, technician name, and telephone number. Send the data to the address on this letterhead.
- Send the image data,
a hard copy of header, and a scout view with the first and last slice represented.
Note: It is extremely important that the patient does not move during the scanning process.
